The work on the Methodist chapel site is progressing extremely well. The transformation of this historic building into much-needed housing for local people has entered an exciting phase.

Inside the old chapel itself, the new apartments are really beginning to take shape. The wiring and plumbing are now in place, and the walls and ceilings have been fully plastered. Fixtures and fittings for the bathrooms and kitchens have been selected, and installation will begin in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the construction of the new adjoining building is moving along at pace. The roof rafters are in place, and the structure is ready for battening and tiling next week.

Overall, the project remains on track to deliver nine new almshouses by early 2026—providing safe, secure, and comfortable homes for those in need within our community.

If you are currently experiencing difficulties with housing and believe that an almshouse might be appropriate for you or someone you know, please visit the Applying to Become a Resident section of our website. You’ll find clear guidance on the eligibility criteria along with a downloadable application form.

We’re immensely grateful for the continued support of our donors, partners, and volunteers who are helping to bring this project to life.
