A fantastic team of local volunteers has come together to build the new bin store for the nine new homes at The Lambourn Almshouses, proving once again what can be achieved through community spirit, generosity and practical teamwork.

You may well ask, what is so special about a bin store? In this case, quite a lot. Rather than installing a standard commercial enclosure, the team designed and constructed a beautiful timber structure which resembles a traditional historic garden building, carefully crafted to complement the appearance and character of the new almshouses site.

Constructed from solid wood and designed with great attention to detail, the building ensures that an essential but often unattractive feature blends sympathetically into the surroundings rather than detracting from them.

The project came about after commercial quotations for the work proved considerably higher than anticipated. Thanks to the willingness of volunteers to give their time and expertise freely, together with very keen pricing for the timber supplied by our local builders’ merchant Fort, the final cost has been only a fraction of what a commercial installation would have been.

A huge thank you goes to the entire team led by Simon Mooney, who designed, built and are now completing the cladding of this impressive addition to the site.
