For over 500 years, the Lambourn Almshouses have provided homes for people in need. Now, one of its newest residents is settling in, marking a major milestone in his life.

Having spent a few weeks his new home, he’s already feeling the difference. Until now, his accommodation had always been tied to his work in the horse racing industry. He left home at just sixteen to start his career and has lived in hostels ever since.
But now, for the first time in his adult life, he has a place to truly call his own. When asked how it feels, his response was immediate:
“Just brilliant, it has changed my life. It’s lovely to come home from work, to be warm, and to have my own bathroom and kitchen. It’s great to be living in the village and not relying on others for a lift to the shops. I feel so happy here—it’s such a relief to have my own place.”
His story is a reminder of how vital almshouses remain, even in the modern day. For those who have spent years in tied accommodation or uncertain housing, they offer stability, independence, and—most importantly—a home.
